The Town Clerk’s Office serves as the primary gateway to local government and functions as the central hub of the Town’s administrative operations. The office is responsible for maintaining the official records of Town government, overseeing document management, and safeguarding vital records.

As an authorized issuer of New York State and local licenses, certificates, and permits, the Town Clerk’s Office provides a broad range of services, including:

The Putnam Valley Town Clerk’s Office is staffed by a knowledgeable and courteous team dedicated to providing prompt and reliable assistance. Residents may access services in the following ways:

TAX COLLECTION NOTICE

Town of Putnam Valley – 2026 Tax Season
For the upcoming 2026 tax season, please review the following payment guidelines:

  • Tax payments may be made online by clicking HERE.
  • Payment by E-Check online is available at no cost.
  • Credit card payments incur a 2.5% processing fee, which is retained by the credit card company, not the Town.
  • Online payments are accepted through April 30, 2026.
  • Checks or money orders may be mailed to:
    Town of Putnam Valley
    265 Oscawana Lake Road
    Putnam Valley, NY 10579
  • A secure drop box is located to the right of the front door at the Town Hall building (same address as above).
  • Checks or money orders may be placed in the drop box at any time.
  • Receipts will be issued upon request.
  • Personal checks, bank checks, and money orders are all accepted.
  • Credit cards cannot be processed at the Town Hall building; they may be used online only through the Town’s website.

County of Putnam and Town of Putnam Valley Taxes

Payments in Full:

  • January: Full payment may be made with no interest.
  • February: Full payment plus 1% interest.
  • March: Full payment plus 2% interest.
  • April: Full payment plus 3% interest, plus $2.00.
  • After May 1st: Full payment must be made to the Putnam County Commissioner of Finance.

Installment Payments:

  • January: 50% of the full payment is due.
  • February 1st to July 31st: Second installment may be paid in any month; interest accrues at 1% per month.
  • After August 1st: The Remaining balance must be paid to the Putnam County Commissioner of Finance.

Marriage Licence

Congratulations on Your Engagement!

The Town of Putnam Valley is honored to be part of your special day. Before you can be married in New York State, you must obtain a marriage license.

Marriage licenses are issued by appointment only after all required documents have been gathered and your worksheets have been completed.

Before Your Appointment

Both applicants must appear together to apply for the marriage license.

Please bring the following:

  • Original birth certificate for each applicant.
    • If a birth certificate is not in English, it must be accompanied by a certified English translation.
  • Proof of the termination of any prior marriage(s) (if applicable).
    • Divorce decrees must include the court’s filed date.
  • Valid government-issued photo identification
    • Examples include a driver’s license or passport.
  • Marriage License Fee: $40.00
    • Payment accepted by cash or check.

Before your appointment, each applicant must complete and print a Marriage License Worksheet.

One worksheet is required for each person.

Please bring the completed worksheets with all required documents to your appointment.

Important Information

  • A 24-hour waiting period is required after the marriage license is issued before the ceremony may take place.
  • The marriage license is valid for 60 days from the date it is issued.
  • Marriage licenses are issued by appointment only:
    • Monday through Thursday
    • 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

New York State Domestic Relations Law, Article 3 governs who is authorized to solemnize a marriage.

The Town of Putnam Valley offers several options:

Town Clerk or Town Judges

Appointments may be made with the Town Clerk or one of the Town Judges to perform your marriage ceremony after your marriage license has been issued.

The Town Clerk offers a personalized ceremony, including:

  • A traditional exchange of vows
  • Exchange of rings (optional)
  • A “tying of the knot” ceremony (optional)

One-Day Officiant License

Would you like a family member or friend to perform your ceremony?

New York State allows a person of your choosing to apply for a One-Day Marriage Officiant License through the same municipality that issued your marriage license.

“New York Firearms License Request for Public Records Exemption” is available in the Town Clerk’s Office.

  • Absentee Ballot Form: Application must be received by the Town Clerk at least 7 days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivery personally to the voter.
  • Alarm Cancellation Form: If you no longer have an alarm system, please complete this form and send to the Town Clerk’s office.
  • Alarm Permit: If you have an alarm please complete this form and send to the Town Clerk’s office with a check made out to amount indicated on Fee Schedule.
  • Application to Collect Solid Waste: If you would like to collect Solid Waste in the Town of Putnam Valley please complete this form and send to the Town of Putnam Valley with check made out to amount indicated on Fee Schedule.
  • Change of Address Form: If your primary mailing address has changed please complete this form and send to the Town Clerk’s Office.
  • Dog License Form: New York State requires all dogs over the age of 4 months to be licensed with their municipality. To obtain a license for your dog you will need this form and proof of rabies vaccination. The vaccine must be valid for thirty days from the date of licensing. Licenses can be done in person with the required documents or by mail. If you will be mailing in your license form please include proof of rabies with your license form so we can mail your dog tag and paper license to you.
  • Filming Permit: If you will be filming in town please complete this form and send the Town Clerk with check made out to amount indicated on Fee Schedule.
  • FOIL Request Form: If you are requesting to view or have copies made of any Town documentation, please complete this form and send to the Town Clerk’s office via mail, fax or e-mail. Please refer to the fee schedule for applicable copy costs.
  • Handicap Parking Form: To apply for a handicap parking privileges (temporary or permanent), please bring this form to you doctor to be completed. Once complete please bring the form, with original doctor’s signature and your driver’s license to the Town Clerk’s Office. There is no cost for this service.
