Harmful Algal Blooms (Blue-Green Algae)
Blue-green algae, also known as harmful algal blooms (HABs), can develop in lakes and ponds, especially during warm weather. These blooms may produce toxins that can be harmful to people, pets, and wildlife.
Exposure can occur through direct contact, ingestion, or inhalation of contaminated water. It is important to avoid swimming, wading, or allowing pets near water that appears discolored, has surface scum, or resembles paint or pea soup.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed and report suspected blooms to local authorities.
