DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves the performance of standardized clerical tasks which may require operation of such equipment as a personal computer or word-processor. Specific duties vary with the needs of the municipality, district, department, or division. Procedures are usually fixed but detailed instructions are given for new or difficult assignments. Work involves the processing of all or part of the paperwork flow of an office or unit of an office which involves judgment in scheduling and prioritizing work, and evaluating submitted data for compliance with established criteria. Work is performed under general supervision. Supervision of others is typically not a responsibility of this position. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:  (Illustrative only)

  • Operates a computer or other word processing related equipment to produce correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, databases, charts and other work documents;
  • Collects data, types, enters, and otherwise maintains various types of records;
  • Files correspondence, memoranda, reports and other materials;
  • Proofreads and corrects work for accuracy and completeness;
  • Issues form letters and notices;
  • Sorts, date stamps and distributes mail and packages;
  • Maintains alphabetic, numeric and/or chronological files of correspondence, documents and materials as appropriate;
  • Distributes applications, forms, enrollment packets, cards, etc., and answers routine questions for completing them;
  • Processes applications, forms, enrollment packets, cards, etc., and maintains such information in electronic or paper filing system;
  • Performs receptionist functions such as directing visitors and callers to the proper person or office and giving information of a routine nature;
  • Operates a variety of business office machines such as computers, copying machines, calculators, scanners, etc.;
  • Maintains and updates calendars of office, department and/or program schedules and related information;
  • Maintains and balances simple account or record keeping entries;
  • Prepares simple statistical reports from assembled data;
  • Maintains and distributes office supplies;
  • Makes and checks routine arithmetical computations, as necessary;
  • May collect fees and accounts for monies received;
  • May issue permits and licenses;
  • Performs a variety of related activities as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of office practices, procedures, terminology and equipment; working knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to operate an alphanumeric keyboard at an acceptable rate of speed; ability to use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; accuracy; resourcefulness; initiative; good judgment; tact; courtesy; neat appearance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Either

  1. Graduation from high school or possession of a comparable diploma; or
  2. Two (2) years clerical experience; or
  3. An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in  a) and b) above

Assistant Payroll Clerk

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS This is clerical work involving responsibility for participating in a variety of aspects of payroll data and financial records processing. A high degree of accuracy and organization, and the ability to work under pressure of deadlines is required. Because the work involves access to personal information which is protected under federal laws, rules & regulations, it is essential that confidentiality be maintained. Work is performed in accordance with prescribed procedures under direct supervision of a payroll manager or higher level finance administrator. Supervision may be exercised over lower level accounting or clerical personnel. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES(Illustrative only)

  • Computes gross wages and posts wage data to payroll records; Prepares a list of all changes (i.e., pay, new hires, deductions, etc.) occurring each payroll;
  • Proves gross payroll totals after changes have been processed by the data processing section;
  • Coordinates payroll information with the data processing section; Makes adjustments and revisions in payroll rates or deductions; Operates computer using specialized payroll software;
  • Computes breakdown of gross annual salaries resulting from revised pay rates; prepares bank deposits and breakdowns on payrolls as to proper amounts for State Tax, Federal Tax, Social Security, Bonds, Group Insurance and Union Dues;
  • Prepares salary information for Workers’ Compensation and Disability Forms;
  • Prepares various reports such as Retirement, Social Security, Federal Withholding, State Withholding, Hospitalization, Group Insurance, C.S.E.A., NYS Department of Labor Report, CNA Report, Credit Union;
  • Operates a check‑signing machine;
  • May do incidental typing;
  • May distribute pay checks;
  • Performs a variety of related activities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or possession of a comparable diploma, and four (4) years of clerical experience, two (2) years of which must have been in payroll work and one (1) year of which must have involved the operation of a computer in the payroll process. Salary $45,000

School Bus Drivers for Putnam Valley School District

5 Anticipated Postitions

School: Putnam Valley Central School District

Duties include: Operate school bus on a regular schedule or on special occasions; check the operational condition of the bus before starting on a trip; report any mechanical defect to immediate supervisor; check and fills vehicle with fuel; records beginning and finishing mileage reading; participates in emergency drills as required; instruct and/or inform children about safety practices when entering and leaving bus; maintains orderly conduct of children on bus; and clean interior and exterior of the assigned vehicle.

May be required to operate a full-size bus, van, SUV or other similar vehicle; may be required to perform minor maintenance tasks on the vehicle; reports drivers passing a stopped school bus; may be required to administer first aid to children injured on the bus; performs a variety of related activities as required; and may be required to attend mandatory training.

Qualifications:           Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment.  Eligibility for the appropriate level New York State Driver’s License at the time of application; possession of the appropriate level New York State Driver’s License at time of appointment. Must satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Commissioners of Education and Motor Vehicles.

CDL-B-PS Classification; good knowledge of driving safety practices; traffic laws and regulations; mechanical aptitude; mental alertness; dependability; and physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. 

Ability to operate a bus under all driving and road conditions; to make minor repairs to the vehicle; to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; and to get along well with children and command their respect.

Schedule:                  School Calendar (184 days).

Effective date:          2023-2024 school year.

Salary:                        As per CSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.  Salary range is $25 – $43 per hour commensurate with experience.  Medical and dental insurance opt in/out available.
