Town Announces 2026 Plan to Reduce Harmful Algal Blooms at Lake Peekskill

Beginning 8:00 AM on Monday, May 18th 2026, Cimmaron Road will be closed to all traffic for bridge replacement.  The detour route through Horton Hollow Road will be posted.  This closure is expected to be 8 to 10 weeks. Your patience is appreciated as we complete this necessary work.

If you have questions regarding the project, the Highway Superintendent, Shawn Keeler, can be reached in the Office at 845-526-3333 or on his cell at 845-745 -0795. Email: SKEELER@PUTNAMVALLEY.GOV

In addition The Hudson Highlands Land Trust will have contractors on-site at 75 Cimarron Road throughout May and early June, working at both the upper and lower portions of the property to (1) demolish the collapsing barn, which is visible from Cimarron Rd, and (2) remove materials and debris left behind by past land owners.

The Hudson Highlands Land Trust purchased the property in 2025 and is dedicated to being good stewards of the land; this work is the critical next step in conserving this cherished landscape. A priority for the remediation of this property is the removal of the deteriorating barn along with other structures and debris that currently pose safety hazards. This is also a reminder that the property remains closed to the public at this time while HHLT works to improve the land and determines the best approach to protecting its natural resources.

If you have any questions, please contact HHLT’s Preserve Manager, Cory Tiger at cory.tiger@hhlt.org or (845) 424-3358 x2.
