Highways Update August 2026

Good evening, ladies and Gentlemen
I’d like to take a moment to thank the men and women of the Highway dept. for their continued hard work and dedication.
Just wanted to remind those that haven’t done so yet sign up for the emergency alerts it is the best way to stay on top of road closures and other emergencies.
Cimarron Rd Bridge is open there is still some cosmetic work needed which we will be doing over the next several weeks.

Milling and Blacktopping are complete for the year center line restriping begins tonight and will continue for a few nights this week and a few next week
Our Basins repair crew has repairing basins they will be out daily as we have several in need of repair. They repaired 98 YTD
Vac-ALL crew has been out cleaning basins in Lake Peekskill they have cleaned roughly 635 basins so far.

We replaced 140 feet 18 ft of plastic drainage pipe on Bonnie wood dr which was an outlet pipe that roots had amazingly grew through and caused a major blockage which was discovered when we had the heavy rains a few weeks ago will get back to that in a minute want to extend my thanks to the Carmel highway dept for coming over and assisting us with trying to free the blockage as well as helping clean out some drainage pipes on Sprout brook rd.

Back to the heavy rain storms as much as we understand that houses, basements and garages being flooded are not fun it is not the fault of the highway dept it is extremely frustrating to us as well we do our best to keep the runoff water in basins and drainage underground unfortunately when we get heavy rain some time things get blocked and we do our best to get it corrected asap.
One good thing that did come out of those storms is I was able to get a meeting with the DEC ( The State of Emergency did help) and we toured the town at differ flooding locations caused by blockages in the waterways and was told as the Highway Superintendent I have the authority to go in and remove these blockages no permits needed which is great news now I just need about 100 extra hours a week , so if you live near a water way and see a blockage of any sort please notify us so we can take a look and see how we can remedy the problem, lastly if we need to enter any properties we will be contacting landowners as we must get permission first.

The phones at highway are monitored 24 / 7 and I ask residents with issues to call us and not post on Facebook as we don’t troll for complaints.
