Building & Zoning Update July 2026

Hello, residents!

The Building & Zoning department has been hard at work maintaining daily permit and code enforcement tasks while digitizing our records, including the records for your homes and businesses, to make our future work more efficient.

We’re happy to report that the yearlong digitization efforts are nearing a close – and starting to pay off in our day-to-day interactions with homeowners, contractors, and realtors. We are able to access our records quickly and send requested documents via email rather than in print.

Lately, we have been able to utilize the unused dog shelter on Town Hall’s campus as storage for all the scanned files that have been returned to us. As we work to verify the scanned records against the originals, we are hopeful to open a public digital portal for residents to view their own parcel file via our website. We’ll continue to share updates on this as things progress.

The code enforcement officers and zoning inspector have been diligently following up on complaints and violations. The department is still moving forward with court actions pertaining to septic violations in Lake Peekskill. If you see something, say something.

We encourage those renting their homes on Airbnb, vrbo, and the like to make application for a short-term rental to avoid fines and violations for illegal use. If you know of a neighbor using these platforms without the proper permits, please notify us.

Please remember that all phases of construction need to be permitted for, including electrical work, roof replacements, installation of solar panels, replacement and new installation of HVAC, and any interior renovations. As the summer storms surge and more residents seek the reliability of generators, please be sure to obtain the proper permits. If you’re unsure if you need a permit, please give us a call – we’re happy to explain.

Thank you, and have a safe summer.
