The Building Department provides many necessary services to property owners in the Town of Putnam Valley, including records retention, code enforcement, fire and safety inspections, and permitting.
The code enforcement officers follow New York State building codes, along with the Town of Putnam Valley’s zoning ordinances, in reviewing plans, performing inspections, and carrying out daily operations. The department may issue violations to those found to be out of compliance with such codes and regulations.
Starting January 1, 2026, all designed professional plans must comply with the 2025 New York State codes.

Important Notices
- Many Building Department files are temporarily unavailable for viewing in the office.
Please check with the Building Department for file availability (845-526-2377). If you
would like a copy of file contents, please submit a FOIL request through the Town
Clerk’s office. If the file is available for in-person review, the Building Department will
pull files between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily. - All permit applications are accepted Monday through Friday between the hours of 10
a.m. and 3 p.m. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
