NO CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS

This includes insulation, plasterboard, 2 x 4’s and any building lumber, decking, roofing materials, doors, ceramic or porcelain sinks/toilets/tubs/tiles, and any other small or large renovation materials.

NO HAZARDOUS MATERIALS

This includes paint cans with any paint residue, lawn chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, oils, lubricants, acids, thinners, stains, varnishes, and any other materials or substances of a flammable or poisonous nature. No propane tanks, empty or otherwise. No fluorescent light bulbs & tubes.

NO MOTOR OIL

The town will no longer be able to accept used motor oil.

WE ACCEPT, WITH NO CHARGE

Most metal products:

Stoves, dishwashers, hot water tanks, holding tanks, metal sinks, metal tubs, metal kitchen and bathroom fixtures, lawn machinery, car/truck batteries, metal boats, and any predominantly metal item.

OTHER FEES:

We accept freezers, refrigerators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and tires.

$10.00 fee to extract the Freon from refrigerators.
$5.00 fee to extract the Freon from air conditioning units
$10.00 each per 13-15” Tires.  (with or without rims)
$20.00 Truck Tires
$75.00 ea. Small Tractor Tires

ELECTRONIC RECYCLING CENTER NOW OPEN

The Town of Putnam Valley provides a container for the residents of the town to dispose of Electronic Waste free of charge.  Hours of Operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm.  Please check in with the Highway office. Proof of residency is required. Residents may also drop-off on the scheduled Bulk Drop-Off dates. Please download and refer to the list of acceptable Electronic Waste items.  If you have any questions or are unsure of an item that is eligible for drop-off, please call 845-526-9114.

Ten Things You Didn’t Know You Can Recycle

1.)  Appliances:  Many Stores will recycle your old appliance when you purchase a new one.  Goodwill accepts working appliances.  Go to www.goodwill.org or you can contact the Steel Recycling Institute to recycle them at www.recycle-steel.org

2.) Athletic shoes: One World Running will sell still-wearable shoes to athletes in need in Africa, Latin America, and Haiti: www.oneworldrunning.com  Nike’s Reuse-a-shoe program turns old shoes into playground and athletic flooring: www.nikereuseashoe.com

3.) Batteries: Contact www.batteryrecycling.com

4.) Clothes: Wearable clothes can go to your local Goodwill outlet or shelter.  Donate wearable women’s business clothing to the nonprofit Dress for Success, which gives them to low-income women as they search for jobs: www.dressforsuccess.org – Officer un-wearable clothes to local animal boarding and shelter facilities, which often use them as pet bedding.

5.) Compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL): Take them to your local IDEA store for recycling: www.ikea.com –  You can also order a Sylvania RecyclePak: www.sylvania.com/recycle/recyclepak

6.) Computers and electronics: To find the most responsible recyclers go to www.ban.org/pledge/Locations.html

7.) 11.) Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Days: Putnam County hosts two Household Hazardous Waste drop-off dates each year, typically the first weekends of May and October at the Canopus Beach Parking Lot at Fahnestock State Park.   Pre-registration is required for Drop off Days.  Contact the Putnam County Department of Health at 845-808-1390 ext. 43150.  Visit www.putnamcountyny.com/health/recycle for more information and guidelines.
